Marres (Maastricht), June 27 - August 23, 2026

Following the tremendous success of previous editions, Marres (Maastricht) and Odapark (Venray) issued an open call in February for the fourth Limburg Biënnale. The applicants collectively submitted over 2,500 works. The jury, composed of twenty established and emerging professional artists, subsequently made a selection from these submissions. Each member of the jury was allocated a space where they combined the works they chose with one or several of their own artworks, texts, a mural, or specially designed wallpaper. The Limburg Biënnale aims to showcase a vibrant cross-section of visual art in Limburg and surroundings, connecting professional and amateur artists.

Mounir Eddib was invited to curate "De Tussenkamer". He selected a limited number of works that feel subterranean and supernatural at the same time. These works all contain a certain darkness, contributing to a somewhat alienating but also intimate space of safety, seclusion and escape. The windows of the room were covered with a yellow filter, creating eerie lighting that complements the earth brown walls.

Although the selection process was fully anonymized Eddib almost exclusively chose art by women, except for Winter (2025) by Christopher Pablo – a Black artist born in Curaçao who studied and currently lives in the area. The others are Layla 135, Melanie Bosboom, Helmie Brugman, Nynke Deinema, Veronica de Giovanelli, Niekeline der Kinderen, Judith Kosten, Didianne Leusink, Dagmar Pouwelse, Caronline Sarneel, Wytske van der Veen and Ans Verdijk.

Eddib also showcased three of his own ink drawings with lead from the We Belong (2025) series.
