Manifestation #43: (Where and for Whom?) Listening to the Absences
Buro Stedelijk, Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam), November 28 - January 23, 2024/25
In the central area of the museum's experimental project space Buro Stedelijk, Simomo Bouj created an installation titled MINA RWINA DIR (2024). Resulting from years of collaboration with organizations and artists operating on the fringes of the institutionalized art scene, this composite work stimulates reflection on issues of visibility, inclusion, and the maintenance of safe spaces.
The installation presents a homely decor of Moroccan traditional fabrics and garments, as well as smaller pieces made by various artists. It includes two of Mounir Eddib's painted ceramic plates, each with a central portrait encircled by the names "Haitam" and "Fatima" written in Arabic script.
All items are wrapped in transparent plastic to signal the fragility of cherished personal belongings, artworks and especially values in public spaces.
