The Illegal Club: Unseen Sidetracks

TICK TACK (Antwerp), October 9 - December 19, 2026

Housed in the Brutalist landmark 'De Zonnewijzer' (The Sundial) by architect Léon Stynen, TICK TACK recently opened The Illegal Club in the former bomb shelter of the complex. This new permanent space for sound and performance launched with Pressure Chamber, a sound installation by Nik Nowak (1981, Mainz).

For its opening, The Illegal Club extends from the shelter to the entire building. On the ground floor and mezzanine, more than 50 artists living and working in Belgium each show a studio work made off the record: an experiment, an early work, a sidetrack from the main line of a practice. It is a deliberate turn inward. TICK TACK's program has largely looked outward, toward international artists and exhibitions. This presentation is built entirely around the scene on its own doorstep. The format is based on B-Sides, originally organized by Hannah Perry in Calcio, an artist-run space in South Bermondsey, London.

Mounir Eddib presents Lead Negative II (2024). This experimental work consists almost entirely of lead, containing a humanoid face. The soldered lead sheet envelops a Hasselblad photo negative of a ghostlike figure, and is nailed directly into the wall.

Exhibition opening hours: WED-SAT, 13:00-18:00 and by appointment
