Hedge House, Kasteel Wijlre Estate, August 31 - March 1, 2025/26
This group exhibition explores our complex ties with animals and more-than-human landscapes, addressing urgent contemporary aspects of these often imbalanced relationships.
Mounir Eddib's commissioned contribution titled Mother Ocean, Motherland (2025) manifests an ancient ancestor who formed the foundations of the regional landscape, its yellowish marlowe rocks made of fossilized seabed 65 million years ago. Her spirit continues to watch over all life she has facilitated. What would be her message to us nowadays?
Curated by Lieneke Hulshof and set in the manicured gardens of a seventeenth-century castle, enveloped by the rolling hills of Zuid-Limburg.
A significant amount of the sale of this work will be donated by the artist to Kanne Beter, a non-profit action group that promotes respectful engagement with the local environment.
